# WAEC Syllabus 2027/2028 PDF Download for All Subjects

If you are preparing for WAEC 2027, you should have the syllabus for every subject you registered.

The WAEC syllabus shows you the topics you are expected to study and the areas you should cover before the examination. Depending on the subject, it may also explain the examination objectives, paper structure, practical requirements and recommended materials.
Using the syllabus makes your preparation easier because you can study topic by topic instead of reading without knowing exactly what you are expected to cover.

The list above follows WAEC’s current Nigerian subject structure and the subjects appearing in the latest WASSCE timetable for candidates in Nigeria. WAEC’s entry regulations list the current Science, Humanities, Business and Trade subjects, while the 2026 Nigeria timetable confirms subjects such as Civic Education and Digital Technologies.

## Important Changes to WAEC Subject Names

If you have an old WAEC syllabus, you may notice that some of the subject names are different.

This is important because you should prepare with the subject currently used for your examination rather than continue searching only with an old subject name.

### Computer Studies is Now Digital Technologies

WAEC’s 2025 timetable used **Computer Studies** for subject code SC618, while the 2026 timetable uses **Digital Technologies** for the same SC618 series of papers.

So, if you have been looking for:

**WAEC Computer Studies syllabus**

you should now also look for:

**WAEC Digital Technologies syllabus**

The 2026 examination included Digital Technologies Essay, Objective and Practical papers.

For WAEC 2027, Digital Technologies should not be confused with a compulsory subject for every candidate. [WAEC’s entry regulations](https://waecnigeria.org/node/102) state that English Language and General Mathematics are the two core subjects candidates must take in 2026 and 2027.

### Animal Husbandry is Now Livestock Farming

Another important change is **Animal Husbandry**.

The 2025 timetable used Animal Husbandry, while the 2026 Nigeria timetable uses **Livestock Farming** for the SC518 papers.

Therefore, if you are preparing for the current examination, use:

**Livestock Farming**

instead of relying only on an old syllabus labelled Animal Husbandry.

The 2026 Nigeria examination contained Livestock Farming Objective, Essay and Practical papers.

### History is Now Nigerian History

The current Nigeria timetable uses the name **Nigerian History**.

The 2025 timetable referred to SC207 as History, while the 2026 Nigeria timetable calls SC207 **Nigerian History**.

So, for the current subject list on your WAEC preparation materials, use **Nigerian History**.

### Use Accounting Instead of Financial Accounting

The current Nigeria timetable uses the subject name **Accounting**, with Essay and Objective papers under SC104.

Our old syllabus article had both “Financial Accounting” and “Financial Accounts.” Those duplicate entries should be removed.

Use:

**Accounting**

### Use Agriculture Instead of Agricultural Science

For candidates in Nigeria, the current timetable uses **Agriculture** under SC502.

So our main syllabus list should use:

**Agriculture**

rather than listing Agriculture, Agricultural Science and General Agriculture as separate Nigerian subjects.

### Other Names You Should Use

We should also use the current names:

- Foods and Nutrition
- Catering Craft
- Islamic Studies
- Fashion Design and Garment Making
- Beauty and Cosmetology
- Computer Hardware and GSM Repairs
- Solar Photovoltaic Installation and Maintenance
- Health Education / Health Science

These names appear in WAEC’s current entry regulations or the latest Nigeria timetable.

## What is the WAEC Syllabus

The WAEC syllabus is your guide to what you are expected to study for a particular subject.

It helps you answer a simple but very important question:

**What exactly should I prepare before WAEC?**

Instead of opening a textbook and reading every chapter from beginning to end without direction, you can check the syllabus and identify the areas relevant to your examination.

Depending on the subject, the syllabus may show you:

- Topics you should study
- Subtopics under each major topic
- Examination objectives
- Skills you should be able to demonstrate
- Paper structure
- Practical requirements
- Recommended textbooks
- Suggested materials
- Areas of emphasis

You should use the syllabus together with your class notes, textbooks and past questions.

## Is the WAEC Syllabus 2027 Out

You can already begin your 2027 preparation with the WAEC syllabuses applicable to the subjects registered for you.

You do not need to wait until WAEC releases the 2027 timetable before studying with your syllabus.

WAEC states that examination timetables and subject syllabuses are made available to prospective candidates, and its official e-learning platform also provides subject resources designed to help candidates understand the standards expected in the examination.

Your syllabus should therefore be part of your preparation from the beginning.

## How Many Subjects Will You Register for WAEC 2027

You will register and sit for at least **eight subjects and not more than nine subjects**.

WAEC’s current entry regulations state that candidates in 2026 and 2027 have two core subjects:

- English Language
- General Mathematics

You will then select another six or seven subjects to make a total of eight or nine.

Your additional subjects should match:

- Your area of study
- The subjects offered by your school
- The course you intend to study after secondary school
- The O’level requirements for that course

Do not choose a subject simply because your friends are registering it.

## WAEC Core Subjects for 2027

The two core subjects for candidates sitting for WAEC in 2027 are:

### English Language

English Language is one of the subjects you should take seriously from the beginning of your preparation.

The examination includes more than one component. For example, the latest Nigeria timetable contains Essay, Objective and Test of Orals papers for English Language.

Your preparation should therefore cover more than essay writing alone.

### General Mathematics

General Mathematics is also a core subject for WAEC 2027 candidates.

The latest examination structure includes Essay and Objective papers.

Practice Mathematics regularly rather than leaving it until the final weeks before your examination.

## WAEC Syllabus for Science Students 2027

If you are a science student, subjects available in the current WAEC science group include:

- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Agriculture
- Further Mathematics
- Physical Education
- Health Education
- Foods and Nutrition
- Geography
- Technical Drawing

WAEC lists these subjects under its current Science category.

You will not necessarily register all of them.

Your combination should depend on what you want to study after secondary school.

For example, if you hope to apply for Medicine, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Computer Science or another science-based programme, check the exact O’level subjects required for that course before your school completes your registration.

## WAEC Syllabus for Art and Humanities Students 2027

WAEC’s current Humanities subjects include:

- Nigerian History
- Government
- Christian Religious Studies
- Islamic Studies
- Hausa
- Igbo
- Yoruba
- French
- Arabic
- Visual Art
- Music
- Literature-in-English
- Home Management
- Catering Craft

WAEC’s entry regulations list one Nigerian language as Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba, alongside the other Humanities subjects.

Again, you should select your subjects according to your intended course.

If you want to study a course that requires Literature-in-English, for example, make sure it is among the subjects registered for you.

Do not wait until admission time before checking your subject combination.

## WAEC Syllabus for Commercial Students 2027

The current WAEC Business subjects are:

- Accounting
- Commerce
- Marketing
- Economics

WAEC lists all four under the Business category.

If you intend to study Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Banking and Finance, Marketing or another business-related programme, check the O’level requirements for your course before registration is completed.

## WAEC Trade Subjects 2027

WAEC’s current entry regulations list these Trade subjects:

- Fashion Design and Garment Making
- Livestock Farming
- Beauty and Cosmetology
- Computer Hardware and GSM Repairs
- Solar Photovoltaic Installation and Maintenance
- Horticulture and Crop Production

Several of these subjects also appear in the 2026 Nigeria timetable, including Fashion Design and Garment Making, Livestock Farming, Beauty and Cosmetology, Computer Hardware and GSM Repairs, and Solar Photovoltaic Installation and Maintenance.

### What About Horticulture and Crop Production

Horticulture and Crop Production is listed by WAEC among the current Trade subjects.

However, it did not appear in the Nigeria-specific 2026 final timetable.

If your school plans to register you for Horticulture and Crop Production in 2027, confirm the subject with your examination officer and use the syllabus your school provides.

## Is Civic Education Still a WAEC Subject

Civic Education appeared in the official 2026 WASSCE timetable for candidates in Nigeria, with both Essay and Objective papers.

We should therefore include Civic Education in our syllabus resources rather than removing it simply because it is missing from some newer subject-category lists.

If Civic Education is among the subjects registered for you, prepare for it with the appropriate syllabus.

## What About Citizenship and Heritage Studies

Citizenship and Heritage Studies is part of WAEC’s newer core-subject structure, but it is **not a compulsory examination subject for 2027 candidates**.

WAEC states that candidates in 2026 and 2027 will sit only English Language and General Mathematics as the available core subjects, with the newer core arrangement taking effect later.

You therefore should not replace your 2027 Civic Education preparation with Citizenship and Heritage Studies unless your school receives different official instructions for your examination.

## How to Download the WAEC Syllabus 2027/2028 PDF

To download your syllabus from this page:

- Scroll to the WAEC syllabus table.
- Look for the subject you registered.
- Click **Download PDF** beside it.
- Open the syllabus on your phone, tablet or computer.
- Save the PDF so you can use it without internet access.
- Repeat the process for your remaining subjects.

Create one folder on your phone and name it something simple such as:

**WAEC 2027 Syllabus**

Put all your subject PDFs there.

If you registered nine subjects, you should eventually have the syllabus for all nine.

## How to Use the WAEC Syllabus Properly

Downloading all your syllabuses will not improve your result if you never open them.

Use each syllabus as a working document.

### Start With the Subjects You Registered

Do not spend your time downloading syllabuses for subjects you are not writing.

Confirm your final subjects and concentrate on them.

For example, if you registered:

- English Language
- General Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Geography
- Economics
- Civic Education
- Digital Technologies

those are the nine syllabuses you need.

### Turn Each Syllabus Into a Checklist

Go through the syllabus and mark the topics you have already covered.

You can use a simple system:

**✓ Completed**
**● Studying now**
**× Not yet studied**
**R Needs revision**

This immediately shows you where you stand.

If half of your syllabus is still marked “Not yet studied,” you know you have more work to do.

### Compare the Syllabus With Your School Notes

Check whether the topics your teacher has taught match what appears in the syllabus.

If there are areas in the syllabus that you have not covered properly, write them down and ask your teacher about them.

Do not ignore a topic simply because it has not appeared frequently in past questions.

### Study Before Practicing Past Questions

Past questions are useful, but they should not replace the syllabus.

A better order is:

**Check the syllabus → Study the topic → Attempt past questions → Check your mistakes → Revise**

This helps you understand the subject rather than memorizing answers.

## Is the WAEC Syllabus the Same as Past Questions

No.

The syllabus tells you **what you are expected to study**.

Past questions show you **how some of those areas have been examined in previous years**.

You should use both.

For example, after studying a Biology topic in your syllabus, find WAEC past questions on that topic and answer them without looking at the solution first.

If you cannot answer them properly, return to the topic and study it again.

## Is the WAEC Syllabus the Same as the Scheme of Work

No.

Your school’s scheme of work normally divides the curriculum into what your teacher should cover each week or term.

The WAEC syllabus guides your preparation for the examination.

They may cover many of the same topics, but they serve different purposes.

When preparing specifically for WAEC, use your examination syllabus as a checklist alongside what you have already learned in school.

## Is the WAEC Syllabus the Same as the Timetable

No.

The syllabus tells you:

**what to study.**

The WAEC timetable tells you:

**when you will write each paper.**

For example, your Chemistry syllabus helps you know what to prepare in Chemistry.

The WAEC timetable will eventually tell you the date and time for your Chemistry Essay, Objective and Practical papers.

## Does the Same WAEC Syllabus Apply to Every Candidate

You should use the syllabus for the subjects registered for you.

Science, Art and Commercial candidates do not all offer the same subjects.

Even two science students may have different combinations depending on their school and the courses they plan to study.

Your friend may offer Further Mathematics while you do not. Another candidate may write Geography, while your combination includes Economics.

That is why your preparation should be based on **your own registered subjects**.

## Should You Use an Old WAEC Syllabus for 2027

Be careful with very old syllabus PDFs.

Some subject content may remain relevant, but subject names and examination structures can change.

We have already seen recent examples:

- Computer Studies is now presented as Digital Technologies.
- Animal Husbandry is now presented as Livestock Farming.
- History is now Nigerian History.
- Financial Accounting should be listed as Accounting for the current Nigerian examination structure.

Always check the subject name and make sure the material corresponds to what you are registered to write.

## WAEC Literature Texts for 2027

If you are offering Literature-in-English or a language subject with prescribed texts, do not depend only on the syllabus.

You also need the prescribed books for your examination period.

WAEC Nigeria has published selected texts covering **2026 to 2030**, so candidates sitting in 2027 fall within that cycle.

Make sure you are studying the current texts rather than the books used by candidates several years ago.

**READ ALSO:** WAEC Literature Texts 2027/2028

## Use WAEC Chief Examiners’ Reports Too

Another useful resource is WAEC’s official e-learning platform.

WAEC provides subject pages containing Chief Examiners’ reports and information about candidates’ strengths, weaknesses and performance on previous questions.

These reports can help you understand mistakes candidates repeatedly make.

For example, you may discover that candidates lose marks because they:

- fail to answer the exact question asked;
- give incomplete explanations;
- leave out units in calculations;
- draw poor diagrams;
- fail to label diagrams correctly;
- do not show workings;
- misunderstand important terms.

Use those observations to improve the way you answer questions.

## When Should You Start Using the WAEC Syllabus

Start using it as early as possible.

Do not wait until the timetable comes out.

If you begin early, you can cover your syllabus gradually and still have enough time for revision and past questions.

Your aim should be that, before the examination begins, you are revising topics you already understand rather than trying to learn large parts of the syllabus for the first time.

## How to Make a Reading Timetable From Your Syllabus

Take one subject and divide its major topics across the weeks available to you.

For example, you might decide to:

- practice Mathematics every day;
- study two Biology topics each week;
- practice Chemistry calculations three times a week;
- write one English essay every weekend;
- revise Physics formulas regularly;
- read Literature texts in stages;
- practice Economics past questions after each topic.

Your timetable does not need to look complicated.

A simple reading plan you actually follow is better than an impressive timetable you abandon after a few days.

## What to Do When You Finish the Syllabus

Do not stop studying simply because you have covered every topic once.

Your next stage should be revision.

After completing the syllabus:

- Go back to your weakest topics.
- Attempt complete past papers.
- Time yourself.
- Check your answers.
- Study your mistakes.
- Practise objective questions.
- Prepare for practical and oral papers where applicable.
- Read Chief Examiners’ comments.
- Ask your teacher about areas you still do not understand.
- Repeat difficult topics until you are confident.

By the time WAEC begins, the syllabus should feel familiar to you.

## Conclusion

The [WAEC](https://www.waecnigeria.org/) syllabus 2027/2028 should be one of the main resources you use throughout your preparation.

Download the syllabus for every subject registered for you and work through it topic by topic. Use your textbooks and class notes to understand each topic, then practice WAEC past questions to test yourself.

For the 2027 WASSCE, you will register between **eight and nine subjects**, with English Language and General Mathematics as the two core subjects.

Also make sure you are using the current subject names. The latest Nigeria timetable uses **Digital Technologies, Livestock Farming, Nigerian History, Accounting, Agriculture, Foods and Nutrition, Catering Craft, Beauty and Cosmetology, Computer Hardware and GSM Repairs, and Solar Photovoltaic Installation and Maintenance**, among others.

Most importantly, do not download the syllabus and leave it unused on your phone. Use it as your study checklist until you have covered every topic required for your subjects.
