## How to Use the WAEC Commerce Syllabus to Prepare

### Download the Complete Syllabus

Save the syllabus PDF to your device and refer to it throughout your preparation.

Use it as the master checklist for everything you need to study.

### Divide Commerce Into Major Study Blocks

A useful study plan is to divide the subject into:

- Commerce and Production
- Business Organisations
- Trade
- Business Documents
- Finance and Insurance
- Aids to Trade
- Marketing
- Business Law
- Government Policies

- Economic Groupings

This makes the syllabus easier to manage.

### Learn Definitions With Their Applications

For example, after learning the meaning of insurance, also understand:

- Principles
- Types
- Risks
- Importance
- Procedures

After learning the meaning of warehousing, study:

### Study Advantages and Disadvantages Together

Several syllabus topics require both.

- Insurance
- Stock Exchange

Make sure you do not mix the functions of one institution with another.

### Practise Commerce Calculations

Do not leave calculations until shortly before the examination.

Practise:

- Profit
- Turnover
- Working capital
- Discounts

until you can solve them without depending on worked examples.

### Use Real Business Examples

Commerce becomes easier when you relate concepts to businesses around you.

For example:

- A supermarket can help you understand large-scale retailing.
- An online store can help you understand E-Commerce.
- A commercial bank can help you understand banking services.
- A courier company can help you understand communication and distribution.
- An insurance company can help you understand risk management.

Use examples to improve understanding, but make sure your examination answers remain relevant to the question.

### Answer Past Questions by Topic

After studying each section, answer previous questions from that topic.

For example:

After Business Units → practise questions on Sole Proprietorship, Partnership and Companies.

After Trade → practise Home and Foreign Trade questions.

After Insurance → answer questions on principles and types.

After Marketing → practise Marketing Mix questions.

This helps you discover areas that require more revision.
