## How to Study WAEC Christian Religious Studies

Christian Religious Studies is easier when you combine the syllabus with direct Bible reading.

### Read the Prescribed Bible Passages

Do not depend entirely on summaries.

Read the actual prescribed passages and understand:

- People involved
- Events
- Sequence
- Causes
- Consequences
- Lessons

This makes it easier to answer questions even when they are framed differently.

### Study Each Theme With Its Bible Reference

For every topic, use this structure:

**Theme → Bible Passage → Main Events → Important Characters → Lessons → Present-Day Application**

For example:

**Greed → 1 Kings 21 → Ahab and Naboth → Consequences → Dangers of greed → Application to society**

This makes revision more organised.

### Learn Events in the Correct Sequence

Many CRS questions require you to narrate events.

You should know what happened:

- First
- Next
- Afterwards
- Finally

Avoid mixing events from different Bible passages.

### Know the Characters

For every major biblical character, know:

- Identity
- Role
- Important actions
- Strengths or weaknesses
- Consequences of actions
- Lessons

Important characters in the syllabus include:

- Joseph
- Moses
- Joshua
- Deborah
- Eli
- Samuel
- Saul
- David
- Solomon
- Rehoboam
- Elijah
- Ahab
- Gehazi
- Josiah
- Nehemiah
- Ezra
- Daniel
- Jesus
- Peter
- Early apostles

### Understand the Moral Lessons

Do not stop after narrating the biblical event.

Think about the lessons involving:

- Leadership
- Obedience
- Faith
- Forgiveness
- Justice
- Responsibility
- Greed
- Repentance
- Citizenship
- Prayer
- Relationships

The syllabus specifically expects you to understand the relevance and application of biblical moral lessons to present-day life.

### Practise Present-Day Applications

You may need to explain how a biblical teaching applies to modern society.

For example, a lesson about leadership can be applied to:

- Government
- Schools
- Families
- Religious organisations
- Communities

Make your application relevant to the question.

## How to Answer WAEC CRS Essay Questions

### Read the Question Carefully

Pay attention to command words such as:

- Narrate
- Describe
- Explain
- State
- Outline
- Discuss
- Give reasons
- Mention
- Highlight

If you are asked to narrate an event, tell the event in a logical sequence.

If asked for lessons, give clear lessons.

If asked to explain, develop your points.

### Separate Narration From Lessons

If a question has two parts, such as:

**Narrate the story and state three lessons**

answer the narration first and then present the lessons separately.

Do not mix everything together.

### Use Relevant Biblical Details

Include the important people, places, actions and outcomes needed to answer the question.

Avoid filling your answer with unrelated biblical information.

### Present Points Clearly

For questions asking for lessons or applications, make each point clear enough to stand on its own.

Instead of writing:

> We should be good.
A stronger point would explain exactly what lesson the biblical event teaches.

## Important Themes to Revise Regularly

You should cover the complete syllabus, but make sure you are particularly confident in:

- Creation
- Leadership
- Parental Responsibility
- Saul’s Disobedience
- David
- Solomon
