## WAEC Geography Examination Structure

The examination consists of **three papers: Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3**, and all three papers must be taken.

Papers 1 and 2 are taken as a composite paper at one sitting.

## WAEC Geography Paper 1

Paper 1 contains **50 objective questions**.

You are required to answer all the questions within **1 hour**.

The paper carries **50 marks**.

The questions are drawn from syllabus topics that are common to all WAEC member countries.

Because the questions can come from different common sections of the syllabus, you should prepare broadly rather than concentrating on only Physical Geography or Human Geography.

## WAEC Geography Paper 2

Paper 2 contains **nine essay-type questions**.

You are required to answer **four questions** within **2 hours**.

The paper carries **80 marks**.

The structure differs according to the country in which you are taking the examination.

### Separate Theory From Practical Work

For each topic, identify whether you need to:

- Explain
- Calculate
- Draw

- Population
- Agriculture
- Minerals
- Transportation
- Climate
- Vegetation

Do not memorise place names without knowing their location.

### Draw Maps From Memory

Practise sketch maps showing major features.

You do not need an artistic drawing.

Focus on:

- Correct Shape
- Relative Location
- Clear Labels
- Relevant Features

### Practise Past Questions by Topic

After studying a topic, answer related WAEC questions.

For example:

After Map Work → practise map questions.

After Climate → answer weather and climate questions.

After Population → practise population questions.

After Regional Geography → answer country-specific essays.

### Keep Geography Case-Study Notes

For topics involving particular places, organise your notes under:

**Location → Characteristics → Importance → Problems → Solutions**

This works well for:

- Agriculture
- Mining
- Transportation
- Industry
- Tourism

## Conclusion

The **[WAEC](https://www.waecnigeria.org/) Geography Syllabus 2027/2028** gives you a complete guide to the practical, physical, human, economic and regional Geography topics required for the examination.

Your preparation should cover Map Work, Statistical Maps and Diagrams, Physical Geography, Weather and Climate, Environmental Resources, Population, Settlement, Transportation, Industry, Trade and Tourism.

You should also prepare the Regional Geography that applies to your country and pay attention to the country-specific markings in the complete syllabus.

Map work deserves regular practice because the Paper 3 map-reading question is compulsory. Practise scales, distances, bearings, gradients, cross-profiles, drainage, settlement and land-use interpretation until you can work accurately under time.

Do not prepare for Geography by memorising definitions alone. Learn to describe geographical patterns, explain why they occur, interpret maps and data, draw suitable diagrams and apply concepts to real places.

Use the complete syllabus as your main checklist and combine it with an atlas, WAEC past questions, map practice and field observations.
