What Is the JAMB Minimum Score for Admission into State Polytechnics in 2027?

What Is the JAMB Minimum Score for Admission into State Polytechnics in 2027?: As the 2027 UTME approaches, many students planning to apply to state polytechnics are asking:

“What is the minimum JAMB score required for admission into a state polytechnic in 2027?”

This is a smart question — especially for candidates looking for affordable, practical education within their home states. State polytechnics offer valuable training in technology, business, and applied sciences, and they’re a great path to employment or further studies.

In this article, we explain the official cut-off mark, what it means, and how to increase your chances of getting admitted.

JAMB Cut-Off Mark for State Polytechnics in 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially approved 100 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into state polytechnics in Nigeria for the 2027 admission year.

This means candidates who score 100 or above in the UTME are eligible to apply for admission into any state polytechnic across the country — provided they meet other requirements.

Do All Courses in State Polytechnics Accept 100?

While 100 is the minimum, not every course in a state polytechnic will accept candidates at that score. Some competitive departments may raise their internal cut-off to 120 or more depending on:

• The number of available slots
• The number of applicants for a particular course
• The popularity or competitiveness of the course

For example, courses like:

• Computer Science
• Business Administration
• Mass Communication
• Electrical Engineering

…may require higher JAMB scores (around 120–150), even though the minimum remains 100.

Examples of Popular State Polytechnics in Nigeria

Here are a few top state-owned polytechnics that accept a JAMB score of 100 and above:

• The Polytechnic, Ibadan (Poly Ibadan)
• Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO)
• Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku
• Kaduna State Polytechnic (KADPOLY)
• Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH)
• Imo State Polytechnic
• Osun State Polytechnic, Iree

Each school may set its own departmental cut-off, so candidates should always confirm with the institution.

What Else Do You Need Besides JAMB Score?

To be considered for admission into a state polytechnic, you must also:

• Have at least 5 credits in your WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB, including English Language and Mathematics
• Choose the polytechnic as your first or second choice on the JAMB portal
• Meet the correct subject combination for your chosen course
• Participate in the school’s post-UTME screening (if required)

Some state polytechnics also accept candidates who make them second choice, but others may only consider first-choice applicants.

What If You Scored Below 100?

If your JAMB score is below 100, you are not eligible to apply to any polytechnic — federal or state — through JAMB in 2027. However, you can:

• Consider Colleges of Education or Innovation Enterprise Institutions
• Explore part-time, pre-ND, or certificate programmes
• Prepare to rewrite JAMB in 2027

Final Advice for 2027 Candidates

Scoring 100 or more in JAMB makes you eligible to apply for a state polytechnic, but the higher your score, the better your chances — especially for high-demand courses.

Always check:

• The exact cut-off for your course
• Your O’level result status
• Whether your subject combination is correct
• If the polytechnic accepts second choice
