As of 3 August 2026, the West African Examinations Council has not announced the registration fee, starting date or final deadline for the 2027 examination. The official school-candidate registration portal is still displaying information for the [2026 examination](/waec-questions-and-answers/).

Based on the schedules used for the 2025 and 2026 examinations, schools may begin the preliminary stages of the 2027 registration between August and September 2026. Candidate registration is also expected to begin around September 2026 and continue into the final months of the year.

However, this is only an expected timeframe based on recent registration schedules. It is not an official date from WAEC.

You should also understand that the WAEC registration process for school candidates is different from JAMB registration. You will not buy a WAEC form and register independently. Your secondary school will collect your information, register your subjects and submit your entry to WAEC.

## Is the WAEC 2027 Registration Form Out?

No, the WAEC 2027 registration form is not yet out.

WAEC has not released the official registration circular for the [2027 WASSCE for School Candidates](https://registration.waecdirect.org/). Schools have also not been given a confirmed nationwide registration deadline for the examination.

You may hear that some schools have started collecting names, passport photographs, NIN details or registration deposits. This does not necessarily mean that WAEC has officially opened the main online registration portal.

Schools sometimes begin preparing candidate records before the final online entry period starts.

Before paying, ask your school to explain:

- Whether the payment is a deposit or the complete registration fee
- Whether WAEC has released the official 2027 entry circular
- What school-related charges are included
- When your candidate details will be submitted
- Whether you will receive a receipt

Do not pay money to an individual, cybercafé or unofficial website claiming to sell the WAEC 2027 form.

## When Will WAEC Registration for 2027 Start?

WAEC has not announced the exact starting date for the 2027 school-candidate registration.

Based on the most recent registration schedules, schools are expected to begin preparations between August and September 2026.

For the 2025 examination, offline registration ran from 24 September to 27 December 2024, while online registration ran from 6 January to 14 February 2025.

For the 2026 examination, the registration process started earlier:

| 2026 registration activity | Officially reported period |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Upload of CASS 1 and CASS 2 | 19 August to 31 October 2025 |
| Offline registration | 16 September to 21 November 2025 |
| Online registration | 22 September to 12 December 2025 |

The 2026 registration schedule was contained in a WAEC circular sent to schools.

This recent timetable suggests that WAEC may begin the 2027 registration process around August or September 2026.

Nevertheless, you should not present September 2026 as the confirmed starting date. WAEC may change the schedule when it releases the official 2027 registration circular.

## Expected WAEC 2027 Registration Date

The expected WAEC 2027 registration period is as follows:

- School preparation and CASS upload may begin around August 2026.
- Offline candidate registration may begin around September 2026.
- Online registration may begin around September or October 2026.
- The normal registration deadline may fall between December 2026 and February 2027.
- WAEC may provide an extension where necessary.

These dates are projections, not confirmed dates.

Your school may also set an internal deadline that is earlier than WAEC’s final deadline. Schools need time to collect candidates’ details, correct mistakes, capture photographs, select subjects and upload entries.

Therefore, you should follow your school’s deadline rather than waiting for the final date announced by WAEC.

## When Is the WAEC Registration Deadline for 2027?

The official WAEC registration deadline for 2027 has not been announced.

Based on recent schedules, the normal registration period may close between December 2026 and February 2027.

The original online registration deadline for the 2026 examination was 12 December 2025. WAEC later extended the final registration and uploading deadline to 13 March 2026.

The extension given for 2026 does not mean the same thing will happen in 2027.

You should not deliberately delay your registration because you expect WAEC to extend the deadline. An extension is not guaranteed, and your school may refuse to accept late payments after its internal closing date.

## How Much Is the WAEC Registration Fee for 2027?

WAEC has not announced the official registration fee for the 2027 WASSCE for School Candidates.

The official registration circular for the 2025 examination listed a normal entry fee of ₦27,000 per candidate. The circular also contained separate charges payable by schools for registration materials and other services.

The ₦27,000 amount was for the 2025 examination. It should not be presented as the confirmed fee for 2027.

WAEC may:

- Retain the same amount
- Increase the registration fee
- Introduce new charges
- Change the services included in the fee

You may also pay more than WAEC’s normal entry fee because your school can include legitimate school-related expenses.

These may include:

- Passport photograph production
- Data processing
- Registration materials
- Practical materials
- Mock examination
- Administrative expenses
- Computer or ICT services
- Transportation to pooled examination centres
- Additional school examination charges

Your school should explain the amount you are paying and provide a receipt.

## Is the Amount Charged by Your School the Official WAEC Fee?

Not necessarily.

The amount collected by your school may include the official WAEC entry fee and additional school expenses.

For example, if WAEC announces a particular entry fee, your school may still add the cost of photographs, practical materials, printing, data processing or internal examinations.

This does not automatically mean the school is overcharging you. However, you have the right to ask for a breakdown of the payment.

You should be careful when a school:

- Refuses to issue a receipt
- Cannot explain what the payment covers
- Keeps changing the amount without explanation
- Asks you to pay into a personal account
- Promises to register you without collecting your correct details
- Charges a large late-registration penalty without evidence

Where you are unsure, your parent or guardian can contact the nearest WAEC office for clarification.

## Who Can Register for WAEC 2027 as a School Candidate?

The 2027 WASSCE for School Candidates is mainly for students in the final year of secondary school.

You are expected to be presented by a recognised secondary school.

WAEC explains that all entry formalities for school candidates are undertaken by the schools presenting them. Private candidates, on the other hand, register individually for the private-candidate examination.

You should therefore register through your school if you are:

- Currently enrolled in SS3
- Completing senior secondary school in 2027
- A recognised student of the school presenting you
- Eligible under your school’s academic and attendance requirements
- Included in the school’s Continuous Assessment records

You should not pay a school you do not attend to register you as one of its students.

If you are no longer in secondary school, you may need to register for the WASSCE for Private Candidates instead.

## WAEC School Candidates and Private Candidates Are Different

The term “WAEC registration” can refer to more than one examination.

### WASSCE for School Candidates

This examination is commonly called WAEC May/June.

It is intended for final-year secondary school students. Your school registers you and completes the entry formalities.

### WASSCE for Private Candidates

This examination is commonly called WAEC GCE.

It is intended for people registering independently. Private candidates purchase a registration PIN and complete an online and biometric registration process.

This article covers the **2027 WASSCE for School Candidates in Nigeria**, not the private-candidate examination.

## WAEC Registration Requirements for 2027

WAEC has not released the complete requirements for the 2027 registration exercise.

Based on the current school-candidate process and recent official entry guidelines, you should prepare the following.

### 1. Registration Through Your Secondary School

Your school is responsible for entering you for the examination.

You should not visit an ordinary cybercafé and attempt to register yourself as a school candidate.

The school receives the registration instructions and submits candidates through the official WAEC school-candidate portal.

### 2. Correct Full Name

Provide your name exactly as it should appear on your WAEC certificate.

Your surname, first name and other name must be arranged correctly.

Avoid:

- Abbreviating your name
- Changing the spelling without supporting documents
- Using a nickname
- Leaving out one of your recognised names
- Arranging your names differently from your official records

A mistake in your name can create problems when you later use the result for JAMB, admission, employment or international applications.

### 3. National Identification Number

The official 2025 registration circular stated that each school candidate was expected to have a National Identification Number for the registration exercise.

WAEC has not yet published the final NIN instruction for the 2027 examination. However, you should obtain your NIN early and make sure the information attached to it is correct.

Check:

- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Other personal information

Do not wait until your school’s registration deadline before trying to enrol for or correct your NIN.

### 4. Correct Date of Birth

Give your correct date of birth.

Do not reduce or increase your age because a friend, teacher or registration assistant tells you to do so.

Your WAEC date of birth may later be compared with information on your:

- NIN record
- JAMB profile
- Birth certificate
- School records
- Admission documents
- International passport

Check the day, month and year before your school submits the entry.

### 5. Recent Passport Photograph

Your school will need a clear photograph for your registration.

For the 2025 examination, WAEC instructed schools to photograph candidates with a digital camera and ensure that the images were of good quality. Items such as caps, sunglasses and other materials that obstruct the candidate’s face were not permitted.

For your photograph:

- Face the camera directly
- Use a plain background
- Do not wear dark glasses
- Do not cover your face
- Avoid filters or edited photographs
- Make sure the photograph clearly resembles you

Your school should follow the photograph specifications provided in the official 2027 circular.

### 6. Subject Selection

You must choose the correct subjects for your intended university, polytechnic or college course.

WAEC’s current entry regulations require candidates to register and sit for a minimum of eight subjects and a maximum of nine subjects.

For candidates registering for the 2027 WASSCE, the two available core subjects are:

- English Language
- General Mathematics

You will select six or seven other subjects to complete a minimum of eight and a maximum of nine subjects.

Your remaining subjects should match your class and future course.

### 7. Continuous Assessment Scores

Your school will be required to submit the applicable Continuous Assessment Scores for its candidates.

The 2026 registration process included a separate period for uploading CASS 1 and CASS 2 before the completion of candidate registration.

You cannot personally create or upload your own Continuous Assessment Scores.

The scores come from your school records, which is one reason you must register through the school you attend.

### 8. Registration Payment

Pay the amount announced by your school through the approved method.

Always collect:

- A payment receipt
- Evidence of bank transfer, where applicable
- A written fee breakdown
- Confirmation that your payment has been recorded

Do not hand over cash without collecting evidence.

### 9. Personal and School Information

Your school may collect information such as:

- Full name
- Date of birth
- Gender
- State of origin
- Local government area
- NIN
- Disability or special-needs information
- Subject choices
- Passport photograph
- Parent or guardian details
- Previous school information

Check every detail before it is uploaded.

## How Many Subjects Will You Register for in WAEC 2027?

You must register for at least eight subjects and no more than nine subjects.

For the 2027 examination, English Language and General Mathematics remain the available core subjects.

You will then choose six or seven additional subjects from your approved area of study.

The available subject groups include:

- Science subjects
- Humanities subjects
- Business subjects
- Nigerian languages
- Vocational and trade subjects

WAEC’s revised entry regulations list subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture, Further Mathematics, Government, Nigerian History, Literature-in-English, Accounting, Commerce, Economics and approved trade subjects.

Do not select subjects simply because they appear easy.

Your subject combination should support the course you intend to study after secondary school.

## New WAEC Subjects for 2027 Candidates

WAEC’s current entry regulations list the following as part of the new core-subject structure:

- Citizenship and Heritage Studies
- Digital Technologies

However, WAEC states that these two new subjects will not be examined until 2028 because the curricula and examination syllabuses still need to be fully implemented.

Candidates registering for the 2026 and 2027 examinations will therefore sit English Language and General Mathematics as the two available core subjects.

You should not confuse the new curriculum structure with the subjects you will actually write in 2027.

Your school will guide you when the official subject-entry instructions are released.

## How to Register for WAEC 2027

Your school will handle most of the registration process, but you must still participate by providing correct information and checking your entry.

### Step 1: Confirm That Your School Will Present Candidates

Ask your school management when it expects to begin the 2027 registration process.

Confirm that the school is recognised and permitted to present candidates for the WASSCE.

### Step 2: Obtain or Correct Your NIN

Get your National Identification Number if you do not already have one.

Where your name or date of birth is incorrect, begin the correction process early.

Do not assume that your school or WAEC can automatically change information belonging to NIMC.

### Step 3: Prepare Your Personal Information

Write down your correct:

- Surname
- First name
- Other name
- Date of birth
- Gender
- State of origin
- Local government area
- NIN

Use the same arrangement that appears on your important documents.

### Step 4: Select the Correct Subjects

Discuss your intended course with your teacher, school counsellor or parent.

Select between eight and nine subjects, ensuring that English Language and General Mathematics are included.

Check that the remaining subjects satisfy the O’level requirements for your intended course.

### Step 5: Take the Required Photograph

Your school may photograph you during the registration exercise or request a passport photograph that meets WAEC’s specifications.

Follow the school’s instructions and make sure your face is clearly visible.

### Step 6: Pay the Registration Fee

Pay the approved amount before your school’s internal deadline.

Collect a receipt and keep it until you confirm that your registration has been completed.

### Step 7: Allow the School to Enter Your Details

The school’s registration officer will enter your information into the WAEC registration system.

Depending on the process announced for 2027, the school may first capture your details offline before uploading them to the online portal.

### Step 8: Check Your Registration Details

Ask to see your details before the final submission.

Check:

- Name
- Photograph
- Date of birth
- Gender
- NIN
- Subjects
- Special-needs information
- Other personal records

Do not assume every entry is correct.

### Step 9: Confirm That Your Registration Was Uploaded

Paying the fee or submitting your passport photograph does not automatically prove that the online registration has been completed.

Ask your school to confirm that your entry has been uploaded and accepted before the deadline.

### Step 10: Keep Your Registration Information

Keep any printout, receipt, candidate information or confirmation given to you.

You may need it to resolve an error or confirm your entry later.

## Can You Register for WAEC 2027 Online Yourself?

No, not as a school candidate.

The official registration is completed by the secondary school presenting you for the examination.

WAEC states that school-candidate entry formalities are undertaken by the schools, while private candidates register individually.

You may assist your school by submitting your information, but you will not complete the full school-candidate registration independently from your phone or at a cybercafé.

## Can a Cybercafé Register You for WAEC May/June?

An ordinary cybercafé cannot independently present you as a school candidate.

Your recognised secondary school must register you through its WAEC entry account.

The school may use an authorised registration officer or technical assistant, but the entry must still be submitted under the school presenting you.

Do not pay a cybercafé that promises to register you for WAEC May/June without involving your school.

## Can You Register for WAEC in a School You Do Not Attend?

You should register through the recognised secondary school where you are a genuine student.

School-candidate registration includes school records and Continuous Assessment Scores. Paying another school to present you as its student may create problems with your registration or result.

Where you are no longer attending secondary school, ask WAEC about registering for the private-candidate examination instead.

## Can You Register for WAEC Without NIN?

The complete 2027 instruction has not yet been released.

However, the official entry circular for the 2025 examination stated that every candidate was expected to have a National Identification Number.

You should therefore prepare your NIN before your school begins the registration process.

Do not wait for the deadline before resolving missing or incorrect NIN information.

## What Happens If Your School Makes a Registration Mistake?

Inform your principal or registration officer immediately.

Some mistakes may be easier to correct before the school completes the final online submission.

Errors that should be reported quickly include:

- Misspelt name
- Incorrect date of birth
- Wrong photograph
- Wrong gender
- Missing subject
- Incorrect subject selection
- Incorrect NIN
- Duplicate entry

Do not wait until the examination timetable or result is released before reporting a mistake you already noticed.

## Important WAEC Registration Mistakes to Avoid

### Paying Without Collecting a Receipt

Always collect proof of payment.

A verbal promise is not enough if your name is later omitted from the registration list.

### Using an Incorrect Name

Use the name that matches your official records.

Do not use a nickname or an informal spelling.

### Choosing the Wrong Subjects

Your WAEC subject combination can affect the courses you are qualified to study.

Check your intended course requirements before the registration is submitted.

### Ignoring Your School’s Deadline

Your school’s deadline may be earlier than WAEC’s final deadline.

Once the school has uploaded and submitted its entries, it may be difficult or expensive to add another candidate.

### Assuming Payment Means Registration Is Complete

Your registration is not complete simply because you paid.

Confirm that your details have been entered and uploaded.

### Registering Through an Unauthorised Person

Do not pay someone on social media, at a business centre or outside your school to register you as a school candidate.

### Failing to Check Your Photograph

Make sure the photograph attached to your entry belongs to you and clearly shows your face.

### Waiting for a Deadline Extension

WAEC sometimes extends registration, but an extension is not guaranteed.

Complete your registration according to the deadline given by your school.

## How to Know That Your WAEC Registration Is Complete

You should confirm the following:

- Your school has received your payment
- Your details have been captured
- Your photograph has been added
- Your subjects are correct
- Your entry has been uploaded
- Your name appears on the school’s candidate list
- Your registration has been accepted without an unresolved error

Ask your school for any available registration confirmation or candidate information printout.

## What to Do After Registering for WAEC 2027

After confirming your registration:

- Keep your payment receipt and registration information.
- Review your registered subjects.
- Obtain the current WAEC syllabus for each subject.
- Study the approved Literature-in-English texts where applicable.
- Practise objective, essay and practical questions.
- Ask your school about the examination format.
- Check the official timetable when WAEC releases it.
- Report any registration mistake immediately.
- Prepare for school mock examinations.
- Avoid websites selling leaked questions or fake examination assistance.

WAEC has already published selected Literature and language texts covering the 2026–2030 examination period, so candidates taking applicable subjects should use the approved texts for their examination year.

Based on recent schedules, schools may begin preparing entries around August or September 2026. However, you should wait for the official WAEC registration circular before treating any date, deadline or fee as confirmed.
