- Vocabulary
- Nahw
- Sarf
- Sentence construction
- Translation
- Comprehension
- Arabic literature
- Current prescribed texts
- Examination instructions

You should still study the complete [WAEC Arabic Syllabus 2027/2028](/waec-arabic-syllabus/) because no likely-questions page should replace the syllabus.

## WAEC Arabic Likely Composition Questions

Composition is one of the areas where candidates need actual writing practice.

Do not only read the topics below.

Choose one, set a reasonable time and write a complete Arabic composition.

**أهمية التعليم في حياة الشباب**

Write an essay in Arabic on:

- التعليم مفتاح النجاح
- التعليم يزيل الجهل

Do not simply list these points.

Develop them into connected Arabic paragraphs.

## How to Answer Arabic Composition Questions

Do not memorise one essay and try to force it into another topic.

First understand the question.

Then make a short plan before writing.

A good composition should have:

- مقدمة — Introduction
- عرض — Main discussion
- خاتمة — Conclusion

Use simple Arabic that you understand.

Writing difficult words incorrectly does not make an essay better.

Clear and correct Arabic is more useful than unnecessarily complicated expressions.

WAEC Chief Examiner reports have previously identified grammatical mistakes, irrelevant writing, failure to reach the required composition length and misunderstanding of questions among candidates.

Candidates preparing for 2027 and 2028 should use the **WAEC Arabic prescribed texts for the 2026–2030 examination period**.

## How to Prepare for Current Arabic Literature

Do not prepare for the literature section by memorising only:

- Author’s name
- Book title
- Poet’s name

You should read the actual prescribed material.

For each work, be ready to discuss areas such as:

- Main ideas
- Themes
- Important events
- Important characters where applicable
- Lessons
- Selected lines
- Meaning of important expressions
- Writer or poet
- Literary features

The exact question may be worded differently from anything you have practised.

If you understand the text itself, you will be in a much better position to answer.

## Do Not Use the Wrong Set Texts

Arabic prescribed texts change from one examination period to another.

The current official WAEC list covers **2026–2030**, so it applies to both 2027 and 2028 candidates.

Do not rely on a 2021–2025 literature list simply because you found an old textbook, lesson note or past question online.

Old papers remain useful for:

- Grammar
- Composition
- Translation
- Vocabulary
- Examination technique

But current literature preparation should use the current set texts.

## Questions You Should Ask Yourself About Every Literature Text

For every prescribed poem, prose work or story, make sure you can answer questions such as:

- من المؤلف؟
- ما عنوان الكتاب أو القصيدة؟
- ما الفكرة الرئيسية؟
- ما الموضوعات المهمة؟
- ما الدروس المستفادة؟
- من الشخصيات المهمة؟
- ما معنى هذه العبارة؟
- اشرح الأبيات الآتية.
- ما المناسبة؟
- ما الأسلوب المستعمل؟

If you cannot answer these questions from a text you have studied, return to the book.

## Important Areas to Revise for WAEC Arabic

Do not stop with the questions above.

Make sure your preparation also covers the full areas listed in your [WAEC Arabic Areas of Concentration 2027/2028](/waec-arabic-areas-of-concentration/).

Your revision should include:

- Composition
- Grammar
- Nahw
- Sarf
- Vocabulary
- Sentence construction
- Translation
- Comprehension
- Arabic prose
- Arabic poetry
- West African Arabic literature
- Prescribed texts
- Correct spelling
- Arabic handwriting
- Understanding examination instructions

## Pay Attention to Nahw and Sarf

Many candidates focus heavily on literature but neglect grammar.

That can affect almost every other part of the examination.

If your grammar is weak, it can affect:

- Composition
- Translation
- Comprehension answers
- Sentence construction

Review the rules and then apply them to sentences.

Do not simply memorise grammatical definitions.

## Build Your Vocabulary Every Day

You cannot write good Arabic if your vocabulary is too limited.

Learn words from topics such as:

- المدرسة
- الأسرة
- الصحة
- التعليم
- العمل
- المجتمع
- الوطن
- التكنولوجيا
- الأخلاق
- البيئة
- السفر
- التجارة

Do not learn only the English meaning.

Write each new word in an Arabic sentence.

That helps you understand how the word is actually used.

## Practise Correct Arabic Spelling

Arabic spelling deserves serious attention.

WAEC examiner reports have advised candidates to master the correct spelling of vocabulary and to write legibly.

Pay attention to:

- Hamzah
- Tāʾ marbūṭah
- Alif
- Similar-looking letters
- Dots
- Correct word endings
- Correct joining of letters

One missing dot can produce a completely different Arabic letter.

## Read the Question Before Answering

Some candidates know the subject but answer a different question from the one that was asked.

Previous examiner reports have specifically mentioned misinterpretation of questions and violation of rubrics.

Before writing:

- Read the question.
- Read it again.
- Identify the instruction.
- Decide exactly what is required.
- Then answer.

Do not start writing simply because you recognise the topic.

## Practise Writing Arabic by Hand

Typing Arabic on a phone is not enough preparation for a written examination.

Use pen and paper regularly.

This helps you improve:

- Speed
- Handwriting
- Spelling
- Sentence construction
- Confidence
- Organisation of answers

Try writing one short Arabic paragraph every day.

## Use Past Questions With These Likely Questions

Fresh likely questions test whether you can handle a new question.

Past questions show how WAEC has examined the subject before.

You need both.

For example:

**Study Arabic grammar → Attempt fresh grammar questions → Practise previous WAEC grammar questions → Correct mistakes**

For literature:

**Read prescribed text → Answer likely questions → Practise previous question styles → Review weak areas**

Use the [WAEC Arabic Past Questions and Answers PDF](/waec-arabic-past-questions/) alongside these questions.

You can also find the other subjects on the [WAEC Likely Questions 2027/2028 and Answers for All Subjects](/waec-likely-questions/) page.

## Do Not Memorise the Answers Word for Word

The questions in the actual examination can be different.

A composition topic on education may become a question on the role of education in national development.

A grammar example may use a different noun.

A translation question may use completely different vocabulary.

A literature question may focus on another aspect of the same text.

Learn the language and the principle behind the answer.

Do not depend on one memorised response.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid in WAEC Arabic

Avoid:

- Memorising essays without understanding them
- Writing irrelevant points
- Ignoring grammar
- Neglecting Sarf
- Neglecting Nahw
- Using poor Arabic spelling
- Misreading questions
- Writing too little in composition
- Poor handwriting
- Ignoring prescribed texts
- Studying outdated literature books
- Translating word for word without considering meaning
- Ignoring question instructions
- Writing everything you know instead of answering what was asked
- Learning authors and titles without reading the texts

Good preparation should improve both your Arabic knowledge and your examination technique.

## Final Note

[WAEC](https://www.waecnigeria.org/) Arabic likely questions should be used to test your ability, not as a list of questions to cram.

Write the compositions yourself.

Answer the grammar questions without checking the solution.

Translate sentences before reading the answer.

Read the prescribed literature texts instead of depending only on summaries.

Use the [WAEC Arabic Syllabus](/waec-arabic-syllabus/), [Arabic Areas of Concentration](/waec-arabic-areas-of-concentration/) and [Arabic Past Questions](/waec-arabic-past-questions/) together.

If you make mistakes, correct them and try again.

The aim is not to memorise one predicted paper.

The aim is to understand Arabic well enough to answer correctly even when WAEC changes the topic, sentence, passage or wording of the question.
