NECO has stated that there will be no extension of the registration deadline.

Schools are also required to submit their final registration documents, including payment receipts and signed registration lists, by 12 March 2027.

Students should understand that their schools may set earlier deadlines for collecting registration details and payments.

For this reason, do not wait until February 2027 before preparing for registration.

When Is NECO 2027 Registration Starting?

NECO 2027 registration starts on Monday, 2 November 2026.

The registration is for students preparing to write the 2027 SSCE Internal examination.

This means that students who are currently in SS3 should begin preparing their personal details, NIN, examination subjects and other registration requirements.

Your school will inform you when it is ready to collect your information.

It is important to understand that registration begins in November 2026 even though the examination will be written in 2027.

This is normal because NECO needs time to collect candidates’ information, confirm their identities and prepare examination centres.

When Is NECO 2027 Registration Closing?

The normal NECO 2027 registration deadline is Friday, 26 February 2027, at 11:59 p.m.

After this date, late registration will begin.

Late registration will run from Saturday, 27 February to Friday, 5 March 2027.

The online registration portal will close at 11:59 p.m. on 5 March 2027.

What Happens If You Miss the Registration Deadline?

If you miss the normal deadline but your school can still register you during the late-registration period, you will pay an additional ₦5,000.

If your registration is not completed before the final deadline, you may not be able to sit for the 2027 SSCE Internal examination.

NECO has stated that the deadline will not be extended.

Students should therefore complete their registration before the normal closing date.

Important: Giving your details or payment to your school is not the final stage of registration. Your school must successfully upload your information and obtain your NECO registration number.

NECO 2027 Registration Fee

The official registration fee for the 2027 NECO SSCE Internal examination is ₦30,000 per candidate.

This is the main examination registration fee.

There are also other listed charges for examination materials and certain school services.

NECO 2027 Registration Fees and Charges

Item Amount
SSCE Internal registration ₦30,000 per candidate
Four-Figure Mathematical Tables ₦1,300 per candidate
Waterproof certificate jacket ₦2,500 per candidate
Electronic photo album ₦2,700 per pair per school
NECO syllabus ₦2,000 per copy
Late registration penalty ₦5,000 per candidate
Correction after online upload ₦10,000 per candidate
Fee for an examination centre with fewer than 20 candidates ₦70,000 per school

Other applicable payment charges, including service charges and stamp duty, may also apply.

The electronic photo album and examination-centre fee are school-related charges. They are not automatically separate fees payable by every candidate.

The ₦70,000 examination-centre fee applies when a school with fewer than 20 candidates wishes to host the examination at its own premises.

Registration payments are non-refundable.

How Much Will Students Pay in Total?

The main NECO registration fee is ₦30,000, but the total amount collected by a school may be higher because of other applicable charges.

For example, the four-figure mathematical tables and certificate jacket are listed separately in the 2027 fee schedule.

Schools may also have their own administrative expenses.

Before paying, ask your school for a clear explanation of the amount you are expected to pay.

You should also request a receipt after making payment.

How Much Is NECO 2027 Late Registration?

The late registration penalty is ₦5,000.

This means that a candidate registering late will pay ₦35,000 in registration and late fees alone, before any other applicable charges.

To avoid this extra cost, complete your registration during the normal registration period.

Who Can Register for NECO 2027?

The NECO 2027 SSCE Internal examination is for students in their final year of senior secondary school.

This means that SS3 students in recognised participating schools are eligible for the examination.

The examination is available to school-based candidates in Nigeria and eligible Nigerian schools overseas.

Private candidates are not allowed to register for SSCE Internal.

NECO also prohibits schools from admitting or transferring candidates into SS3 for the purpose of examination registration.

Can Someone Who Has Finished Secondary School Register?

If you have already finished secondary school and are no longer an SS3 student, the SSCE Internal examination is not the correct examination for you.

NECO conducts a separate SSCE External examination for private candidates.

The External examination has its own registration process, dates and requirements.

NECO 2027 Registration Requirements

Before registering for NECO 2027, students should prepare the information and documents needed by their schools.

The most important requirements are explained below.

1. National Identification Number (NIN)

Every NECO 2027 candidate must have a valid National Identification Number.

The NIN is used to identify candidates during registration.

If you do not have a NIN, inform your parent or guardian so that you can make arrangements to obtain one.

If you already have a NIN, check that the number is correct before giving it to your school.

Do not use another person’s NIN.

2. Correct Personal Information

Your school will collect your personal details, including:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • State of origin
  • Local government area
  • National Identification Number

Your name and date of birth must be correct.

For example, if your name is Chiamaka Grace Okafor, make sure your school enters it in the correct order and with the correct spelling.

Small mistakes can create problems when you need your examination certificate.

3. Passport Photograph

Every candidate must have a clear and recent passport photograph.

NECO requires candidates to be photographed in their school uniforms.

Your face must be clearly visible, and the photograph must not be blurred.

Students with poor-quality photographs may face problems with their registration or certificate.

Your school will explain how and when your photograph will be captured.

4. Fingerprint Capture

NECO requires biometric registration.

Biometric registration means collecting information such as your fingerprints to confirm your identity.

All ten fingers must be captured during registration.

The fingerprint capture must be done by the actual candidate.

Another person cannot provide fingerprints on your behalf.

Students whose fingerprints have not been captured cannot have their registration details successfully uploaded.

5. Correct Examination Subjects

Before registering, you should know the subjects you will write.

NECO’s SSCE Internal subject rules require candidates to register at least eight subjects and not more than nine subjects.

Candidates must also follow the compulsory subject and subject-group requirements.

Ask your teachers to help you confirm your subject combination.

For example, if you are a science student planning to study Engineering, you should ensure that your registered subjects meet the requirements for your intended course.

Do not choose subjects simply because your friends are choosing them.

6. Registration Payment

Your school will inform you of the approved registration payment and how to make it.

Keep your payment receipt.

Do not send money to strangers on WhatsApp, Facebook or Telegram who claim they can register you for NECO without your school.

How to Register for NECO 2027

Students register for the NECO SSCE Internal examination through their schools.

Below is the registration process explained in simple steps.

Step 1: Meet Your School’s Examination Officer

Visit your school’s examination officer or principal.

Ask when the school will begin collecting details for NECO 2027 registration.

The school will tell you what information and documents to prepare.

You should also ask about the school’s payment deadline.

Step 2: Submit Your Personal Details

Give the school your correct full name, date of birth, NIN and other required information.

Check every detail before submitting it.

If there is a mistake in your official records, report it before your registration is completed.

Step 3: Confirm Your NECO Subjects

Your school will ask you to confirm the subjects you intend to write.

Check the list carefully.

Make sure it contains the compulsory subjects and the subjects required for your area of study.

If you are unsure about a subject, ask your teacher before approving the list.

Step 4: Complete Photograph and Fingerprint Capture

Your school will arrange for your passport photograph and fingerprints to be captured.

Attend the exercise personally.

Make sure your photograph is clear and that the required fingerprint capture is completed.

Do not miss the exercise because incomplete biometric records can prevent successful registration.

Step 5: Check Your Registration Photocard

After entering your information, your school will print a photocard for you to check.

A registration photocard contains important details about the candidate.

You should check your:

  • Full name and spelling
  • Date of birth
  • NIN
  • Passport photograph
  • Gender
  • State and local government area
  • Examination subjects

If you find any mistake, tell your examination officer immediately.

Your school must correct the mistake before the final online upload.

Step 6: Sign the Validation Documents

After checking your details, your school will ask you to confirm that the information is correct.

Candidates are required to sign the appropriate validation documents.

Your signature shows that you have checked the details presented to you.

Do not sign a document containing information you know is wrong.

Step 7: Pay Your Registration Fee

Follow the payment instructions provided by your school.

The school will complete the required payment through its official NECO registration account.

Ask for a receipt after payment.

Step 8: Confirm Your Online Registration

After payment and verification, your school will upload your details to the NECO online registration system.

When your registration is successful, NECO will issue your registration number.

Ask your school to confirm that your details have been uploaded and that your registration number has been generated.

This is very important: You are not fully registered simply because your school has collected your money or personal details.

Step 9: Collect Your Final Registration Photocard

After your school completes the registration, collect your final photocard showing your NECO registration number.

Keep it safely.

You may need it for identification during the examination.

NECO 2027 Registration Portal

The official school registration portal for NECO SSCE Internal is: https://ssceinternal.neco.gov.ng

This portal is used by schools to manage registration.

Students do not need to open personal SSCE Internal accounts to complete the process themselves.

The school uses its account to enter candidate information, upload records, make payments and obtain examination registration numbers.

If you are an SS3 student, your main responsibility is to provide the required information, complete biometric capture and check your registration details.

How Schools Register Candidates for NECO 2027

School principals and examination officers have additional responsibilities during registration.

These are important because students cannot complete the entire process without their schools.

1. Claim the School Registration Account

Every participating school must claim its NECO registration portal.

The school needs an official email address and telephone number.

NECO sends the login details to the school’s registered email address.

Schools should use their official contact information rather than a personal or cybercafé email address.

2. Install the 2027 Registration Application

Schools are required to use the 2027 offline registration application.

The application is used to collect candidates’ personal information, examination subjects, photographs and other required details.

Schools should use the current application rather than an old version from a previous examination year.

3. Check Candidates’ Details

After entering students’ information, schools must print their photocards and validation lists.

Each candidate must check and confirm the information.

Schools should correct errors before making the final online upload.

4. Capture Candidates’ Fingerprints

Schools must capture all ten fingerprints using the approved FUTRONIC FS80H scanner.

Students without complete biometric records cannot be uploaded successfully.

5. Nominate Examination Supervisors

Supervisor nomination is compulsory for participating schools.

Public schools must nominate two supervisors and two assistant supervisors.

Private schools must nominate two supervisors.

The nominees must meet NECO’s qualification and experience requirements.

Schools must also submit the required supervisor documents for verification.

6. Obtain School Activation

Before making registration payments, the school must complete the required validation process through its NECO State Office.

The State Coordinator checks the necessary documents and activates the school.

Schools that have not been activated cannot complete the required payment process.

7. Make Payment and Upload Students’ Details

Schools make payments through the official NECO system using Revop/Remita.

The available payment methods include bank transfer, payment cards, bank branches and USSD.

After payment, the school must verify the transaction and upload the candidates covered by the payment.

The registration is completed only when the uploaded candidates receive NECO registration numbers.

8. Submit the Final Registration Documents

Schools are required to submit the necessary payment receipts and endorsed final validation list to their NECO State Office.

The deadline for submitting these documents is 12 March 2027.

Schools should keep proper copies of their registration records.

How to Know If Your NECO 2027 Registration Is Successful

There are three important things every student should confirm after registration.

First, your school must have uploaded your details successfully.

Second, NECO must have issued your registration number.

Third, you should receive your final registration photocard containing that number.

If you have only paid your school but have not received confirmation of successful registration, ask your examination officer about your status.

Do not assume everything has been completed.

Can You Correct Mistakes After NECO Registration?

Yes, certain mistakes can be corrected, but corrections after online upload attract a penalty.

For NECO 2027, the non-validation correction penalty is ₦10,000 per affected candidate.

Non-validation means correcting information that should have been properly checked before the final online upload.

Examples include mistakes involving names, dates of birth, subjects, gender, state of origin and local government area.

Changing a passport photograph is only allowed within the registration period.

NECO does not accept a simultaneous change of both a candidate’s name and photograph.

Some other corrections may be allowed before the examination ends.

The best way to avoid these problems is to check all your details carefully before signing the validation documents.

NECO 2027 CBT and Pen-and-Paper Examination

NECO 2027 will use two examination methods.

These are:

Computer-Based Examination (CBE): Candidates answer the applicable examination questions using a computer.

Pen-and-Paper Examination (PPE): Candidates answer the applicable examination questions using the traditional paper method.

NECO will inform schools about the examination method assigned to their candidates.

Students should not assume that every school will use the same method.

If your school is assigned a computer-based examination, practising how to use a computer for examination questions can help you prepare.

You should also continue studying the subjects you registered for.

NECO 2027 Registration for Students With Special Needs

Students with disabilities or special examination needs can register for NECO 2027 through their schools.

NECO provides categories for candidates with low vision, complete blindness, albinism, hearing impairment and autism.

Schools must record the appropriate information during registration.

Cases involving autism require official notification to NECO.

If you need special support during your examination, tell your school early so that the appropriate arrangements can be made.

Important NECO 2027 Registration Mistakes to Avoid

Some mistakes can delay registration, attract extra charges or create problems during the examination.

Avoid the following:

  1. Submitting a wrong name: Check your spelling and the order of your names.
  2. Using an incorrect NIN: Confirm that the number belongs to you.
  3. Choosing the wrong subjects: Check your subject list with your teachers.
  4. Missing fingerprint capture: Attend the biometric registration arranged by your school.
  5. Accepting a blurred passport photograph: Make sure your face is clearly visible.
  6. Waiting until the deadline: Complete your registration early.
  7. Failing to check your photocard: Verify your details before signing.
  8. Paying an unknown agent: Use the payment process given by your school.
  9. Assuming payment means registration is complete: Confirm that you have received a registration number.

Taking these precautions can save you from unnecessary problems.
